Description

Perhaps the most beautiful packaging ever on a Bordeaux bottle, Baroness Philippine de Rothschild literally produced a work of art in the gold-engraved bottle of 2000 Mouton Rothschild. Of course, one can't drink the glass, but this is a top-flight Mouton Rothschild, eclipsed only by the 2006 and 2009. A rich, tannic, earthy style, with loads of creme de cassis and floral notes, the final blend of 86% Cabernet Sauvignon and 14% Merlot is a full-bodied wine with plenty of coffee, earth, chocolatey notes, and still plenty of tannin to resolve. I gave it an anticipated maturity range of 2015-2050 back in 2003, and that looks on target.

“First I am, second I was, Mouton never changes”

Undoubtedly the most flamboyant of the Médoc's four fantastics, both in style and packaging. Mouton Rotschild has always been resolutely more modern than its neighbours, always seeking concentration and richness. With its artistic side, this marvelous Pauillac draws the eye to the wines of Bordeaux, it has long been a standard bearer for the region's châteaux. Couldn't hope for better...
Château Mouton Rothschild Premier Grand Cru Classé is dominated by Cabernet Sauvignon. It is generally powerful with an almost opaque and purple color. Crème de cassis, graphite, oak and spices make up a bouquet with a very broad aromatic spectrum that will develop, over the years and even decades, into more evolved notes of tobacco, smoke and cedar.
